Both albums were recorded and mixed at Assault and Battery Studios.
The Assault & Battery complex contains studios like no other. Custom tailored to the highest tracking and mixing needs by Alan and his long time collaborative partner Flood, you get a sense of the passion and expertise these studios were built on the moment you step inside.
With an atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home, Assault & Battery 1 is bursting with individuality and an unrivalled dedication to technical precision and accuracy. The studio contains an exceptional spec compiled by Alan and Flood throughout their careers, including a pristine 72 Channel SSL G+ SL4000 once owned by Trent Reznor, a huge range of outboard including many rare and popular compressors, mic pres, reverbs and effects processors, and a Protools HD 192 rig loaded with an unbelievable number of plug-ins. There is also access to a lavish choice of guitars and amps, complemented by Alan's epic collection of pedals.
The studio is also complemented by a large overdub booth, great for recording guitars and vocals. However it is also popularly used as a 'B Studio' for editing, and even a chill-out lounge. Alan swears by Assault & Battery 1 and mixes the majority of his projects in this studio.
Assault & Battery 2 is tracking heaven. Upon stepping into the live room, preconceptions of studios having to be dark and dingy enviroments are blown away by a vast high-ceiling and day-lit area that will cater for both large bands and even small orchestras. To the side lie two large isolation booths; the first being a bright room ideal for getting exciting drum sounds whilst the other houses a great vintage keyboard collection, featuring a Roland system 700 modular systems along with a wealth of other rare analogue delights. The studio also benefits from a Grotrian Steinweg Concert Grand Piano.
The control room is centred around the classic Cadac G Series Console - a series of historic records were recorded through the Cadac at Wessex Studios with Bill Price at the controls e.g. "Never Mind The Bollocks" Sex Pistols, "London Calling" The Clash, "Sheer Heart Attack" Queen, "Pretenders" Pretenders, "Murder Ballards" Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Overkill" Motorhead, "Darklands" The Jesus and Mary Chain and "Empty Glass" Pete Townsend.
Enhancing the spec further is Alan and Flood's outstanding selection of microphones, mic amps and outboard, plus an arsenal of backline comprising a beautiful collection of guitars, amps and pedals. The studio's unstoppable formula of spacious recording spaces and awesome equipment selections has been masterminded by two of the world's most respected and influential producers.
